5-Week Pranayama Foundation for Teachers & Dedicated Practitioners

A five-week journey into the art and science of conscious breathing – created for yoga teachers who wish to feel confident guiding pranayama, and for dedicated practitioners ready to explore the power of breath in depth.

In recent years, many breathwork modalities have moved toward hyperventilation-based techniques and altered states of consciousness. While these approaches have their place, this course takes a different path. Here, pranayama is explored primarily through the lens of nervous system regulation, subtle perception, and long-term sustainability.

Meeting mid-week allows us to work with clarity and steadiness. Wednesday afternoons support attentive learning and integration – essential qualities when working with the breath and the nervous system.

Over five extended sessions, we’ll explore how slower breathing, extended exhales, and increased tolerance to carbon dioxide can have profound effects on stress regulation, emotional steadiness, and embodied awareness. The emphasis is not on pushing limits or creating intense experiences, but on learning to listen, regulate, and respond skilfully through the breath.

Through theory, guided practice, and supportive teaching labs, you’ll learn to:

  • Understand the relationship between breath, carbon dioxide tolerance, and nervous system regulation
  • Recognise how breath patterns influence stress response, attention, and emotional tone
  • Practic and refine essential techniques such as Ujjayi, Samavritti, Nadi Shodhana, and Viloma
  • Work intelligently with extended exhales, pacing, and breath ratios
  • Confidently guide short pranayama sequences that support regulation rather than stimulation
  • Use breathwork to regulate energy, mood, and presence – in your own practice and in your classes
  • Develop a sustainable, personal pranayama practice

How we work

Each 3½-hour session weaves together lecture, theory, guided pranayama practice, and integration. Learning happens through both understanding and direct embodied experience.

Every week includes:

  • Lectures and guided teaching on breath physiology, nervous system function, CO₂ tolerance, and the yogic understanding of pranayama
  • Guided pranayama practices with careful technique breakdowns and an emphasis on perception rather than performance
  • Teaching labs and practical exercises to build confidence in guiding others safely and responsibly
  • Reflection and discussion, supporting integration into your own practice and teaching context

By the end of the course, you’ll feel grounded in both the science and the subtlety of pranayama – equipped to teach breathwork in a way that supports steadiness, clarity, and long-term wellbeing.

Who is it for?

  • Yoga teachers and trainees who want a solid, regulation-based foundation in breathwork
  • Body-oriented professionals interested in nervous system regulation
  • Experienced practitioners curious about subtle, sustainable approaches to pranayama
  • Anyone seeking depth without intensity, and clarity without force
